Fosamax (Alendronate), What is it?
Fosamax is formulated to decrease the rate of bone loss and is prescribed to those that have osteoporosis.
FOSAMAX is a bisphosphonate that works by:
- Reducing the activity of the cells that cause bone loss
- Decreasing the faster rate of bone loss that occurs after menopause or with use of corticosteroid medications
- Increasing the amount of bone in most patients
Is Fosamax (Alendronate) Right For You?

Fosamax Plus D is a bisphosphonate that works by:
- Reducing the activity of the cells that are respnsible for bone loss
- Decreasing the faster rate of bone loss that occurs after menopause or with use of corticosteroid medications
- Increasing the amount of bone in most patients
These effects are seen as soon as 3 months after therapy with FOSAMAX or FOSAMAX PLUS D has begun.
Are There Any Possible Side Effects for Fosamax (Alendronate)?
Contact your doctor if you experience any of these side effects
- New or worsening heartburn, difficult or painful swallowing, or chest pain
- Include irritation, inflammation, or ulceration of the esophagus
- Severe bone, joint, and/or muscle pain at any time
- Stomach pain, indigestion/heartburn, or nausea.
