Description

Generic Name: sacubitril and valsartan

Drug Class: neprilysin inhibitor and angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB)

Indications

Entresto is an oral prescription used to lessen the risk of hospitalization and cardiovascular death among people with chronic heart failure, especially those with left ventricular ejection fraction below normal. It is also prescribed for pediatric patients diagnosed with symptomatic heart failure and systemic left ventricular systolic dysfunction.

Entresto Dosage Forms

This is available in Entresto 24/26 mg, 49/51 mg, and 97/103 mg film-coated tablets.

Entresto Mechanism of Action

The action of this drug for patients with heart failure is centered on increasing the levels of peptides, especially natriuretic peptides. It also inhibits angiotensin II effects by selectively blocking angiotensin I receptors.

How to Take Entresto

Before starting to take this medication, it is necessary to read the information leaflet or medication guide given by a healthcare professional. You must not take any medication unless you have understood the uses and directions. For more medical advice or additional details, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

This tablet is only intended to be taken orally. This is usually prescribed twice a day, with or without a meal. Take the tablet and drink fluids immediately afterward. Your doctor may start with a low Entresto dose and gradually increase it to avoid severe adverse effects. Additionally, remember not to take ACE inhibitors like captopril and enalapril within 36 hours after taking this medication, as this can also trigger side effects.

Make a dosing schedule. Do not increase or decrease your dose. You should not also take this oral drug more frequently than advised.

Do not take this prescription drug if you have a known allergy to sacubitril, valsartan, other ARBs, ACE inhibitors, and any inactive ingredients the tablet may contain. Always be watchful for any signs of serious allergic reactions, including trouble breathing, swelling of the face and neck, severe dizziness, swollen lymph nodes, hives/itchiness, and skin rashes. Stop taking this oral medication and seek emergency medical help immediately if this occurs.

This medication may be contraindicated for people with a history of dehydration, hyperkalemia, kidney problems, liver problems, and angioedema. Also, due to possible drug interactions, you should discuss all the prescription medications, nonprescription medications, supplements, and herbal products you are taking.
