Description

Indications

Emend is an oral prescription drug used to prevent acute and delayed nausea and vomiting due to initial and repeat courses of HEC or highly emetogenic cancer chemotherapy, especially high-dose cisplatin. It also prevents nausea and vomiting caused by initial and repeats courses of MEC or moderately emetogenic cancer chemotherapy.

Dosage Forms

This is available in Emend 80 mg and 125 mg capsules.

Emend Mechanism of Action

It inhibits emesis caused by cytotoxic chemotherapeutic agents, like cisplatin, through central actions. It is known to cross the blood-brain barrier and occupies brainNK1 receptors, but it has little to no affinity for corticosteroid, serotonin, and dopamine receptors.
