Description

Generic Name: empagliflozin and metformin hydrochloride

Drug Class: sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor and biguanide

Synjardy Indications

Synjardy Dosage Forms

This is available in Synjardy 12.5 mg 1000 mg, 12.5 mg/500 mg, 5 mg/1000 mg, and 5 mg/500 mg tablets.

Synjardy Mechanism of Action

This is a combination product of an SGLT2 inhibitor and a biguanide.

First, it reduces the reabsorption of filtered glucose from the tubular lumen and lessens the renal threshold of glucose, resulting in an increase in urinary glucose excretion.

Second, it improves glycemic control by decreasing the production of hepatic glucose, decreasing the absorption of glucose in the intestines, and improving insulin sensitivity through increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.

It is important that you have a complete understanding of the uses and directions of the medication before taking it. A pharmacist or doctor should be consulted if you need further medical advice.
